How to Update Your Galaxy S III

Galaxy S III owners can now enjoy the new features offered by Jelly Bean. The updates are available over-the-air or through Kies, depending on your carrier. Learn how to update your Galaxy S III.

Introducing Android 4.1, Jelly Bean

Android 4.1, Jelly Bean, is the latest version of the popular mobile platform. Simple, beautiful and easy to navigate, the new update features ingenious voice search capabilities and convenient Google enhancements, so finding the right information on the go has never been this easy, or this fast.

Rich Notifications
Voice Search-Google Maps

Google Now. With this intelligent personal assistant for your phone, you can search the web, get directions and transit schedules, translate a foreign phrase, find the latest sports scores, and more—just by asking a question. Google Now can be launched from the lockscreen shortcut or by long holding the Menu key from any screen.

Voice Search. Search the web with your voice and get quick answers on the go. Powered by the Knowledge Graph, it speaks back to you and brings you a precise answer if it knows it and precisely ranked search results so you can find out more.

Automatic Widget Adjustment. It’s even easier to personalize your home screen. As you place widgets on the screen, everything else automatically moves to make room. When they're too big, widgets resize on their own. Interacting with your favorite apps and customizing your home screen has never been easier.

Rich Notifications. Notifications are now expandable and collapsible with a pinch to show just the amount of information a user needs and have been enhanced so action can be taken without having to launch the app first—like sharing a screenshot directly from the notification.

Camera Enhancements

Galaxy S III users are already sharing great shots with the Share Shot function, but now photo bugs can take great low light photos in Low Light Mode, get more control over video, and unleash their creativity with every shot.

Live Filters

Live Filters. Get creative with photos using filters like Black & White, Sepia, Vintage and more. Better still, filters are active while you shoot, so you can see the effects in action before you even shoot.

Low Light Camera Mode

Low Light Camera Mode. Taking pictures in low-light environments, such as a dimly lit restaurant or concert, can produce blurry or grainy results. The low light camera mode helps you avoid this problem so you can capture every special moment.

Pause and Resume Video

Pause and Resume Video. With the Pause and Resume function, you can pause a video shot then resume when you’re ready, without creating a new video file. This is especially handy when shooting events like baseball games and parties.

New Functionality

The Galaxy S III update brings loads of enhancements to the smartphone experience. A few highlights include SWYPE keyboard, the all-new Pop Up Play function and Blocking Mode.

Easy Mode

Swype Keyboard. This keyboard option has been added so you can type simply by dragging one finger, allowing you to input text faster and in a more intuitive way with one continuous motion.

Pop Up Play. Multitaskers rejoice. With enhanced PIP resize and pause functionality, you can keep watching that important presentation even while you chat, text or open apps on your phone so you won't miss a thing.

Easy Mode. View and access your widgets more easily with the new Easy Mode, which creates a 3×3 matrix with larger widgets.

Blocking Mode This feature shuts off notifications, calls and more, without powering off completely—perfect for a quiet night or outing at the movies.

ESPN’s ScoreCenter App with Custom AllShare Integration

ESPN ScoreCenter

Samsung and ESPN worked together to integrate AllShare® technology into ESPN’s popular ScoreCenter application. This means Galaxy S III owners will now be able to wirelessly push on-demand ESPN global sports coverage and highlights from the ESPN ScoreCenter app to their Samsung Smart TV.

When on the same Wi-Fi® network as a Samsung Smart TV, a sharing icon will appear within the ScoreCenter video player which allows users to seamlessly push what they are watching to the TV. The ScoreCenter app with AllShare integration is available today for download through S Suggest on all U.S. Galaxy S III devices.

Accessorize the Galaxy S III

Whether it’s streaming a fun video to your TV or sending candid party pics to friends, Galaxy S III is ready for accessories that saves time and makes sharing a simple and essential part of everyday life.

AllShare Cast Hub

AllShare Cast Hub. The AllShare Cast Hub accessory transforms your Galaxy S III into a media server, no Wi-Fi hub necessary. Display pictures, broadcast HD videos, or surf Media Hub to catch a blockbuster hit. You can even tap into third-party content from ESPN ScoreCenter or play video games in full glory on the big screen.

TecTiles

Samsung TecTiles™. TecTiles is made of two parts: the TecTiles app and small adhesive tiles. What you do with the tiles is up to you. Just select commands that activate functions on your phone whenever your phone is near. Start a favorite app like Music Hub™, change a phone setting, start Wi-Fi tethering and more—it’s up to you.

NFC Bluetooth

NFC One Touch Pairing Support: Galaxy S III can now pair with supporting NFC Bluetooth accessories in a single touch. The Samsung Galaxy HM3300 Bluetooth headset will be the first Samsung portfolio accessory to support this functionality, allowing users to pair their headset by touching it to the back of their Galaxy S III.
