Tips and Tricks
Galaxy Tab 7.7 (Verizon)
Accessories
Expanding Capabilities with the USB Connection Kit: The optional USB Connection Kit lets the Galaxy Tab 7.7 work with many of the USB devices that you already own, including printers, digital cameras and thumb drives. The adapter plugs into the Tab's port and converts it into a USB port, but it is not recommended for USB devices that need to draw power or recharge their battery from the host device.
Accessories Available at Verizon Wireless: Verizon Wireless carries
a selection of official Samsung accessories to enhance your Galaxy Tab 7.7. Available accessories include a desk dock with an HDMI-out jack; a keyboard dock for comfortable typing; a USB connection kit for interfacing with mice, cameras, and thumb drives; and a book cover to protect the Tab.
Android™
Adding Apps from Google Play™: After registering a Google™ Account on the device, you can browse Google Play for more than 400,000 games, apps, and tools to download. Touch Applications > Market. Browse the featured items, or touch the Search icon to search for specific titles. Select and download the desired app.
Customizing the Home Screen: You can organize widgets and shortcuts on any of the seven scrolling home screens. To move a widget or shortcut from one screen to another, touch and hold the widget until it releases from the home screen grid, and then drag it toward the edge of the screen into the frame of the next home screen. The same long press (touch and hold) gesture can be used to move widgets and shortcuts around on the same home screen.
Viewing Recently Used Apps: To quickly view recently used apps, touch the third icon in the lower left corner of the screen. This function displays thumbnails of apps that have been recently opened. To navigate to one of these apps, touch its thumbnail.
Enterprise
Adding a VPN (Virtual Private Network): A virtual private network
connection lets mobile workers connect to their corporate network resources from afar. For customers using Cisco (AnyConnect™), F5®, or Juniper® (Junos® Pulse), the most current client
can be found on Google Play. You can also manually configure PPTP, L2TP, and IPSec VPN clients by going to Apps > Settings. Select Wireless and networks > VPN Settings > Add VPN.
Google Mobile™ Services
Voice Actions: Voice Actions let you control your device just by speaking. To launch Voice Actions, touch the microphone icon in the top left corner of the home screen. Touch Speak Now and then say a command, such as "listen to the Beatles" or "go to Wikipedia."
Multimedia
Editing Photos: The Photo Editor lets you rotate, resize and crop photos, as well as adjust color elements such as saturation and brightness, and apply effects such as blur and distortion. Selection tools let you apply changes to only part of an image. To begin editing photos, touch Apps > Photo Editor.
Using Smart View: Smart View turns the Galaxy Tab 7.7 into a Wi-Fi® remote, game controller and second screen for a Samsung Smart TV. The Dual View feature shares media from the TV on the tablet so you can watch your favorite shows in another room or in the back yard. Download the free Samsung Smart View app from Google Play to start enjoying home convergence
Media Hub and Google Videos™ Complement Netflix®: Samsung Media Hub, Google Videos, and Netflix offer a wealth of options for viewing movies and TV shows. Netflix provides streaming for instant viewing, while Media Hub provides downloads, including some of the top blockbusters that aren't available on the streaming service. Media Hub downloads also let you
take your movies to places where streaming is prohibited or problematic, like an airplane or an out-of-coverage area. Google Videos lets you begin streaming movies immediately after
download or save them for when you're not connected to Wi-Fi.
Peel Smart Remote
Share on Facebook® and Twitter®: Peel Smart Remote lets you easily share your favorite TV shows with friends on Facebook and Twitter with just two quick taps. Simply touch the Share key on the screen of the selected show and then choose Facebook or Twitter. Learn more about Smart Remote powered by Peel.
Preloaded Apps
Available Verizon Services: The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is preloaded
with a wealth of Verizon services.
- V CAST® Apps connects you with pre-screened, Verizon-friendly apps.
- Mobile Hotspot lets the Tab act as a Wi-Fi access point.
- My Verizon lets you pay your bill, check usage stats, and even change your calling plan or add-on features.
- VZ Navigator® keeps you heading in the right direction with voice-guided GPS navigation.
Free Preloaded Games: Enjoy Uno®, the classic card game in an easy and fun touch format, and Dead Space®, an action-packed mission to battle against deadly aliens, both preloaded on the Galaxy Tab™ 7.7.
Printing
Mobile Printing: The Galaxy Tab 7.7 can interface with compatible Samsung printers to print anywhere via Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct™. Multifunction printers can also send scanned images from the printer to the tablet. Download the free Samsung MobilePrint app from Google Play. While the app is not required to print, it is needed to send scanned documents to the device.
Social Networking
Integrating with Social Hub: Social
Hub aggregates feeds from Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn® in a single window, and you can post and comment directly from the app. Social Hub also lets you add email accounts such as Exchange or other POP3/IMAP email accounts, as well as providing a single composer for all kinds of messages, and integrating social networking information into each contact's entry.
Swype®
Learning to Use Swype: The Swype keyboard, which "types" text by drawing a path through the letters of a word, lets you input text much more quickly — up to 50 words per minute with practice — than the typical hunt-and-peck method. To learn how to use this unique text input method, touch Applications > Settings > Language and input. Then touch Configure input methods > Swype Settings. Select How to Swype.
